RE: APPOINTMENT — Chief Executive Officer
To the Board,
Effective this quarter, operational control of Ashford Industries passes to Mrs. Katherine. The appointment requires no vote you control, which is precisely why it will not be put to one.
I built this company twice — once in systems, once in defense. I do not run it day to day. She does. On paper the board is sovereign; in practice the board is polite. She was not appointed because she needed the title. She was appointed because I trusted her with it.
Every decision, every deal, every launch carries my shadow and her signature. That arrangement has served this company better than any of your objections.
— R.
PS — To the family member copied on this memo: you exist somewhere between us. Old enough to read the machinery, close enough to feel the tension in every room we share. You are the only variable in the whole equation. Her words, not mine. Act accordingly.
